VIOLENCE FREE MINNESOTA'S WE REMEMBER

We Remember is a memorial to Minnesota’s victims of intimate partner homicide. Each of these victims is someone’s child, parent, sibling, family member, intimate partner, friend, neighbor, or co-worker.

For over 30 years, Violence Free Minnesota has collected information on victims killed due to relationship violence in our annual Homicide Report: Relationship Abuse In Minnesota (formerly known as the Femicide Report). Violence Free Minnesota also curates the Clothesline Project, an interactive visual memorial to Minnesota’s victims of intimate partner homicide.

This page is updated every time we are notified of someone killed due to relationship violence in Minnesota. We ask that you share their names and stories on social media and remember them as more than their deaths.

WE REMEMBER 2026

Skylar Kathleen Kiehl

Age 19

Hopkins

January 3, 2026

Skylar Kathleen Kiehl, 19, was shot and killed inside her apartment in Hopkins on January 3, 2026. Skylar’s boyfriend, Krystofer Brooks, 20, is charged with second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter. Skylar and Brooks had been dating for two years.

On the afternoon of January 3, Brooks called 911 and reported he

had shot his girlfriend in the head. Officers arrived and found Skylar on the bed with a gunshot wound through her eye. Brooks claimed that after pointing the gun at the window and pulling the trigger a few times, he turned toward Skylar and pulled the trigger again “to be sure it was unloaded.” He claimed Skylar sat up right as this happened, and the gun then went off. Brooks made several conflicting statements to police, which, combined with the position of Skylar’s body and the location of the blood in the room, led investigators to become suspicious of his account.

Skylar Kathleen Kiehl is remembered as “happy” and “a beautiful light.” Loved ones described her as “bubbly, kindhearted, funny and just a ray of sunshine.”

WE REMEMBER 2026

Hallie Marie Tobler

Age 22

St. Cloud

Sometime between February 3, 2026 and February 7, 2026

Hallie Marie Tobler, 22, was stabbed to death inside her apartment in St. Cloud sometime between February 3 and February 7, 2026. Hallie’s husband Dylan Tobler, 23, is charged with second-degree murder. They had been married since 2021.

On the night of February 7, a person who had not heard from Hallie Tobler went into the home, where they found Hallie deceased with multiple stab wounds. Several knives were found in the bathroom, including one with blood. Tobler was in the living room with self-inflicted injuries. Police were called, and Tobler told them it was his fault that Hallie was dead and that he had caused his own injuries. He was taken to the hospital for treatment. He was released from the hospital and charged on February 10.

According to court records, Tobler was previously charged with a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct from a June 19, 2025 incident in which he strangled Hallie and damaged some of their property.

Hallie Marie Tobler was described by loved ones as a “bright light” who was “kind, compassionate, and full of promise,” and was “a passionate advocate for mental health care.” Hallie worked for the city of St. Cloud IT department and was studying Information Technology – Cybersecurity at Arizona State University online. We remember Hallie Marie Tobler.
